Cypress, Texas is an unincorporated area located along Hwy. 290 and SH 249, about 20 miles northwest of Houston that is situated mainly in Northwest Harris County. The area was settled by German immigrants in the 1840's. Farming was the areas main occupation until rapid growth from Houston started occurring in the 1950's. Residential population showed a moderate growth until the boom years of the past few decades.

Public Schools
With a rich history of more than 100 years, Cypress Fairbanks ISD (Cy-Fair) is the third largest school district in Texas with more than 97,000 students enrolled in the 2007-2008 school year. This is a far cry from the 12 students who attended the school in 1896. Even Eleanor Roosevelt visited the school district in 1938 as part of her National Youth Adminstration Project. Cy-Fair ISD is an exceptional school district with 70% of their campuses gaining Explemary or Recognized status. The district also improved in all five areas of the TAKS test in 2007.
